Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts have not been published before nor are being submitted to other journals. All received manuscripts undergo double-blind reviews, with the following details:

  1. Scope Screening

The editor-in-chief of GoJIS: Gorontalo Journal of Islamic Studies will check the manuscript for possible plagiarism using software like Turnitin, with settings for non-repository and non-bibliography forms. If the similarity exceeds 30-40%, the manuscript will not be considered for the next screening. The editor will also screen all submitted manuscripts for their conformity to the focus and scope of GoJIS: Gorontalo Journal of Islamic Studies.

  2. Initial Screening

The editor-in-chief will assign manuscripts that pass the initial screening to section editors. Assistant editors help the managing editor handle technical editing reviews, such as grammatical errors, citation, and paraphrasing. The principal section editor will select a principal editorial board to initiate the blind review process for the manuscript.

  3. Content Review

A blind reviewer will critically evaluate the content of the manuscript, including the title, abstract, introduction, research question, thesis argument, the method of data gathering and analysis, discussion, and openly suggest related references that may enrich the manuscript's discussion.

  4. Expert Review

Another blind reviewer will examine the manuscript's discussion and help place the discussion in the global context of either Islamic or Muslim community discourse.

  5. Revise the Manuscript

The author will revise the manuscript based on reviewer comments (content and technical errors) within two to four weeks. The revised manuscript will be re-evaluated by the section editor to assess whether the changes are appropriate. If the revisions are still inadequate, the section editor will advise the author to revise again.

  6. Final Decision

The revised manuscript is either accepted or rejected. If the author(s) are unable to make the required changes, the manuscript is rejected.

  7. Galley

The manuscript is handed over to the journal's layouter and then returned to the author for proofreading and final approval.

  8. Published

The final version of the manuscript will be published in the latest issue of GoJIS: Gorontalo Journal of Islamic Studies.
